Our water industry traineeships will challenge you to rise to our level of high standards in water and wastewater services, preparing you for a successful career in the water industry.
While completing a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of how to maintain, repair and operate our water and wastewater services.
You’ll be studying and working for 24 months, working in metropolitan or regional areas. You might be working outdoors or in remote locations and sometimes challenging conditions.
What you’ll work on
As a water industry trainee, you will play a construction and maintenance role within a team. You will:
- Repair and maintain water and wastewater infrastructure, including pipes, water tanks, sewer mains and treatment plants
- Perform meter-reading and changeovers
- Respond to emergency breaks
- Operate pumps and valves for bulk water transfers
- Undertake land management duties, including fencing and vegetation control
- Maintain dam assets, including inspection and monitoring of reservoir dam walls and equipment.
What you’ll study
Your hands-on qualification will help you to establish a career in the water industry. You’ll study subjects including:
- Environmental and licensing procedures
- Operating minor plant and equipment
- Operating and maintaining basic flow and regulating devices
- Computerised information and systems
- Using plans, drawings and specifications.
How to apply
To be eligible for our water industry traineeships you must have a current driver’s license and be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or have an appropriate working visa. There are no age limits for applying for our water industry traineeships.
