Your tap water’s quality and testing

In South Australia, we consistently meet or exceed Australian targets, and your expectations for drinking water quality.

Our testing standards

Here’s why you can be confident your tap water is safe, clean and reliable:

  • World-leading health standards: The Australian Drinking Water Guidelines | NHMRC are among the strictest in the world.
  • Monitoring and testing: We carry out more than 400,000 water tests in our laboratories each year. If we were working around the clock, that’s more than 1000 tests per day!
  • Continuous improvement:  With SA’s growing population, and as the driest state in the driest continent, we must look to the future, ensuring we are environmentally conscious in our water usage.

Trust our data

Your drinking water is monitored and tested before it reaches your tap.

Across South Australia, more than 400,000 water tests are done each year. Our trained staff check water quality every day using a program approved by SA Health. They carry out over 1,000 water tests daily across the state.

Samples are taken at different points in the water supply system by skilled field workers. These are sent to the Australian Water Quality Centre in Adelaide—a world-leading water testing lab.

All testing is done in accordance with ISO 9001 Quality Systems and the National Association of Testing Authorities requirements.
