Trade waste management

Trade waste requires additional treatment compared with used water and substances created by household and general business activities.

Before discharging trade waste, you must apply for a trade waste authorisation. This helps us manage treatment processes, essential in maintaining public and environmental health. It also  prevents infrastructure from being damaged, and helps keep our people safe when we remove, treat and dispose of trade waste from authorised dischargers.

It is illegal to discharge unauthorised trade waste. Doing so is in contravention of the Water Industry Act 2012 and penalties may apply.
