Adelaide Desalination Plant Community Open Day
Our Community Open Day’s are great for individuals or small groups who are interested in learning more about the Adelaide Desalination Plant at Lonsdale. If you are part of a group of 15+ people, please see our Adelaide Desalination Plant Tours information.
Throughout the year we offer multiple Community Open Days at the Adelaide Desalination Plant to small groups and individuals, to see how we turn seawater into safe, clean drinking water. This free event offers three tour times to choose from throughout the day, which include a guided bus tour around the site, as well as time for you to explore the Kauwi Centre for Water Exploration, native gardens and trails.
Please keep in mind this is a community tour that provides an overview of the desalination process, not a technical tour.
The event is free, but you must reserve your spot to attend. If you’d like to be notified when you can register for our next Community Open Day, please fill out our expression of interest form below and we will be in touch.

The Adelaide Desalination Plant at Lonsdale is the state’s largest desalination plant able to produce 100 gigalitres a year. As metropolitan Adelaide’s only climate-independent source of drinking water, it has been delivering drinking water since 2011.
Join a guided bus tour to see how we turn seawater into fresh clean drinking water, and how important desalination is to South Australia’s water security. If your community group has access to a bus, this can be used for the tour. If not, we can organise a bus for you, but please note this is just for the tour – not for transport to the Adelaide Desalination Plant.
Please keep in mind this is a community tour that provides an overview of the desalination process, not a technical tour.
