Track your application

Track your connection application

Our live tracker lets you know where your connection project is up to in the application process.

Learn more about what we do at each stage, the work we may be doing on site, and be notified if we need any additional information to help progress your project.

You can find your Tracking ID in the confirmation email we sent after you completed your application.

When we receive your application, we will assign a case manager to look after your application. They can be contacted via email if you have any questions about your project along the way.

Investigation underway

We will inspect the site and infrastructure requirements to determine if we can complete your application. When assessing your application, we consider the type of connection you need and if any difficult construction conditions exists. After receiving a completed application we will endeavour to assess and invoice you within 20 business days.

Please check the connection service type relevant to your application to see more specific information.

Application assessed

Once your application is assessed, we will send you an invoice, design drawings and approval letter for the work required. Invoices are valid for 60 days and we will not commence your project until the invoice is paid in full.

Please check the connection service type relevant to your application to see more specific information.

Project underway

We are committed to delivering connection services in accordance with our regulatory service standards. After you have paid your invoice we will use our best endeavours to construct/activate your service within the following timeframes to meet regulatory service standards:

  • a standard water connection within 25 business days
  • a non-standard water connection within 35 business days
  • a standard sewerage connection within 30 business days
  • a non-standard sewerage connection within 50 business days

Connections that require extension or upgrade of the supply network may take longer in the construction phase because they are dependent on extension or upgrade works separate to the connection works. We will detail the expected construction timeframe in your approval letter.

Project complete

We will let you know when your project is complete, and service is connected. At this time, you may need to engage a qualified plumber to connect your internal pipework.

What happens during this stage

Water and recycled water connections

We will inspect the site and infrastructure requirements to determine if we can complete your application. To do this we may need access to your property’s boundary, and you may notice some blue and/or orange paint marks on the ground or fence after our visit, it is not permanent, and it will wear off gradually.

When assessing your application, we consider the type of connection you need and if any difficult construction conditions exist; this helps us determine if your connection is standard or nonstandard. If your connection is 'non-standard' you must pay all extra construction costs.

There are many difficult construction conditions, but the main ones include:

  • existing services in the construction path
  • underground water
  • geographical location
  • trees
  • rock
  • requirements for traffic management

You can find out more about standard and non-standard connections here and to understand our connections costs please see our fees and charges.

If our network needs to be extended or upgraded to connect you, we will tell you that connection is not possible at this time. We can provide you an indication of costs to upgrade or extend the connection if you wish. Please note this investigation will be at your cost. We will agree investigation costs with you before proceeding.

Once your application is assessed, we will send you an invoice, design drawings and approval letter for the work required. Your approval letter will include:

  • type of service available
  • required fees and charges for your type of connection
  • construction program associated with the design and construction of your connection
  • any approvals you’re required to obtain and any pre-conditions for us to do the work
  • any post construction requirements.

We ask that you carefully check the design to ensure we are fulfilling your request.

The more we know upfront the more accurate we can be when quoting and planning your project. If changes are required, please let us know before paying the invoice and we will work with you to find a solution that meets both your requirements and our standards.

Invoices are valid for 60 days and we will not commence your project until the invoice is paid in full.

Please be aware you may need to engage a licensed plumber to complete the internal pipework from the connection. Please note that once your new service is constructed any changes to the agreed design will incur charges.

After you have paid your invoice, we aim to construct and activate your service according to these timeframes:

  • standard water connection within 25 business days
  • non-standard water connection within 35 business days.

Every connection project and site are different. There are various factors outside of our control that varies the complexity of a project which can impact cost and delivery timeframes.

The required construction work for your application has now been completed. Your road surface may still need to be reinstated. Please allow up to 5 business days for this work to be completed for metro locations and up to 30 business days for regional.

If we altered your water meter, you will need to engage a qualified plumber to re-connect your internal pipework to the meter at its new location. We will provide a temporary above-ground poly pipe connection to maintain your water supply so you can have your plumber come at a time that is convenient for you.

If we have constructed a new connection, you will need to engage a qualified plumber to connect your internal pipework to the connection.

For new water connections, you'll hear from us each quarter when we bill you for your water use.

If your application was to disconnect a water service and your property still abuts a water main, the relevant supply charge and/or rates on property value will still be payable by you.

For residential properties, you can manage your account online, including setting up direct debit payments and seeing your water use over time. Visit sawater.com.au and sign up to mySAWater. Registering only takes a few minutes and gives you control of your account, 24/7.
