Suite of northern pipe upgrades nearing completion

The next and final stage of SA Water's $7.5 million investment in water mains for the Northern Adelaide Plains is now underway, with the upgrades set to improve water pressure in several local towns and enable ongoing growth across the region.

Around 800 metres of new underground main is currently being installed along Parkers Road, Sturt Highway, Parkers Court and Redbanks Road in Willaston. These works follow the recent laying of more than 6500 metres of pipe in nearby Ward Belt, Concordia, Lewiston, Two Wells and Evanston South.

SA Water General Manager of Asset Operations and Delivery Amanda Lewry said this project will help the utility to meet local demand for safe, clean drinking water now and into the future.

"The Northern Adelaide Plains is experiencing significant growth and it’s important we can continue to support the region as the local population increases," Amanda said.

“Several of the water mains that carry large volumes of water from one area of the network to another are being replaced and upsized, and others that are young and in sound condition are being duplicated.

“Preparing the network for expansion by constructing additional mains and increasing the diameter of these replacement pipes will create a greater capacity and flow, enabling ongoing residential and business growth."

The upgrade in Willaston is expected to be complete in around mid-April, with works typically occurring between Monday and Friday from 7am to 5pm.

“For the safety of our people and the local community, we ask residents and road users in the area to please take note of localised traffic management in place while these works are underway,” Amanda said.

“We will also ensure residents and businesses are notified of any temporary water supply interruptions that are necessary when connecting the newly constructed water mains to the existing network.”

Following the completion of water main upgrades in Willaston, SA Water will progress works as part of the project, to Gawler East and Evanston Park, with more than 1000 metres of new water main to be installed across the two locations, before the project wraps up in around mid-2021.
