New drinking water fountain to hydrate Riesling Trail explorers

South Australians can stay better hydrated while exploring and    cycling the Clare Valley, with the help of a new SA Water drinking water fountain installed along the Riesling Trail.

The fountain at the Station Road car park at the start of the trail offers walkers, cyclists, visitors and residents a sustainable alternative to bottled water, and adds to the growing number of fountains across the state.

SA Water’s Manager of Brand and Community Connection Kellie McDonald said it is now easier to plan to stay hydrated while exploring the picturesque Clare Valley and continue to be environmentally conscious.

“Drinking fountains offer a reliable supply of safe, clean water for people while they’re outdoors, and their convenient locations make it more accessible for more people,” Kellie said.

“Having this fountain in the Clare Valley also helps people to avoid using single-use plastic bottles, which in turn helps you save money and reduce plastic waste.

"Choosing tap over bottled water is a small but significant step towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment.

“Drinking water fountains help reduce the number of single-use plastic bottles making their way to landfill each year in the state.”

Riesling Trail Management Committee Chairman Allan Mayfield said the fountain is already proving very popular with trail users, especially during summer.

“The new drinking fountain is another asset for visitors to the Riesling Trail that allows people to stay hydrated and explore the magnificent region,” Allan said.

The Australian-designed and built fountains can accommodate peoples’ different needs with a water spout that is child and wheelchair accessible.

The fountain’s ‘water window’ also allows for easy, safe filling of water bottles and a splash guard to limit direct mouth contact with the nozzle.
