Partner with SA Water to support reconciliation

Local community events and organisations taking action towards reconciliation in South Australia are encouraged to apply for up to $10,000 as part of SA Water's 2022-23 Pirku-Itya – Reconciliation Partnerships Program.

Pirku-Itya is the Kaurna phrase meaning 'for community', and the annual program provides financial support for activities and projects that support reconciliation and positive outcomes in the local community.

SA Water's Acting General Manager of Strategy, Engagement and Innovation Sandra Ricci said almost a dozen important partnerships have been forged in the program's first two years.

"We strive as a business to make positive and meaningful progress in our journey towards reconciliation, with a major part of this underpinned by improving our engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people," Sandra said.

"Created as part of our stretch Reconciliation Action Plan for 2020-2023, Pirku-Itya is all about working in tandem with grassroots organisations to strengthen our relationships and provide important opportunities with local communities.

"We're proud of the wide range of partnerships formed across South Australia since launching our inaugural program in 2020. These range from supporting the Nipapanha Aboriginal Community Corporation to create a cultural heritage museum at Irish Well Hut in the northern Flinders Ranges, to cultivating an Aboriginal cultural garden with Berri Regional Secondary College.

"We can't wait to hear from even more groups and events who, like us, are dedicated to achieving reconciliation outcomes and making a positive difference for the South Australian community."

Successful applicants must be a South Australian, not for profit organisation that is Aboriginal owned and/or operated or demonstrates relationships that have a direct and positive impact for Aboriginal people.

Each application must also have a clear link to reconciliation and align with SA Water's vision of delivering trusted water services for a sustainable and healthy South Australia.

Applications for Pirku-Itya 2021-22 close 14 June 2022. For more Information and to apply for this year's program, visit sawater.com.au.
