Woodside water tank transformed into a stunning work of art

SA Water‘s water storage tank in Woodside has a striking new look, following the completion of a bold and colourful mural that reflects the character of the local community and natural beauty of the area.

The artwork – by Adelaide Hills-based artist TaylrJay – features native animals, local history and industry unique to the Woodside area, such as grapes and a gold mine. Native plants are also depicted, including Slender Mint, Correa and Long Purple-flag.

The mural is the result of a long term project by community group Love Woodside, supported by Arts SA, Country Arts SA and SA Water.

Love Woodside Tank Mural Project Coordinator Nerissa Walton said the group is thrilled with the artwork and the community response to it.

“It has turned out even better than we imagined, and we thank SA Water for willingly providing the canvas for this project. The site has been transformed into a source of joy for our community,” Nerissa said.

“TaylrJay drew on her own local connection and meticulously researched Woodside industry, history and environment to come up with this fantastic design, which incorporates historical water use through a wooden sluice at the gold mine.”

SA Water’s Manager of Brand and Community Connection Kellie McDonald said the tank plays a critical role in delivering clean, safe drinking water to local homes and businesses, and this was a fantastic  opportunity to enhance its presence as a public asset.

“The mural helps to improve the visual appeal of the area while creating a new point of interest for residents and visitors,” Kellie said.

“Public art has long been recognised for its role in fostering vibrant communities, and this initiative aligns with our broader efforts to engage with and find innovative ways to contribute to the regions we serve.

“Next year, the Love Woodside Group will help us create a garden of local native plants around the tank, further enhancing the area.

“This artwork is a welcome addition to our growing collection of art on infrastructure across metropolitan and regional communities, and we encourage everyone to stop by and take a look.”
