SA Water has unveiled a magnificent new mural on a service building next to the Whispering Wall in the Barossa Reservoir Reserve, featuring a diverse gathering of native birds and a freshwater turtle.
Created by self-taught street artist Marciano Arents, the painting is brought to life through a depiction of a ‘wildlife conversation’ between the various species.
The mural showcases a blend of birds commonly seen around the Barossa Reservoir, including the Eurasian Coot, Great Crested Grebe, Freckled Duck and the majestic Wedge-Tailed Eagle.
At the centre of the scene, a freshwater turtle joins the gathering, representing the aquatic life that thrives within the reservoir’s waters.
SA Water's Manager of Brand and Community Connection Kellie McDonald said this depiction is a tribute to the biodiversity and beauty of the region, inspiring appreciation for the natural environment.
“We’re excited to have Marciano’s artwork at Barossa Reservoir, with his exceptional talent in aerosol art, he is renowned for his ability to bring large-scale murals to life with remarkable detail and realism,” Kellie said.
“It’s a perfect blend of art and nature, which enhances the experience for people visiting the reservoir reserve, complements the recreational activities on offer at the site and helps to fosters a deeper connection to the local environment.
“This mural reflects the beautiful wildlife that makes this place so special and reminds us of the importance of protecting and preserving these native species, while also encouraging people to learn about and keep an eye out for them during their visit.
“This artwork is part of our commitment to improving the visual amenity of our infrastructure in metropolitan and regional communities around South Australia.
“We continue to work with community groups and artists across the state to provide our infrastructure such as sheds, pump stations, pipelines and water towers as canvases for these fantastic paintings.”
Barossa Reservoir Reserve is a popular tourist destination north of Adelaide featuring a nature playground, wheelchair accessible picnic areas and the Whispering Wall, an acoustic phenomenon where voices carry from one end of the wall to the other.
