New graduates tap into rewarding careers with SA Water

16-02-2026

SA Water has welcomed 15 graduates from a record pool of more than 1,700 applicants, making this one of its most competitive annual intakes and highlighting strong demand for purpose-driven careers that benefit South Australians.

The graduates have commenced paid roles across science, engineering, technology and business functions, working in teams right across SA Water to support the delivery of safe, reliable and sustainable water and wastewater services for communities across the state.

The new cohort will bring fresh ideas, new perspectives and emerging skills to critical work that protects public health, supports economic growth and cares for the environment.

Science graduates have studied disciplines including chemistry, biochemistry, soil science, plant biology and economics, supporting scientific, environmental and strategic work across the organisation.

Engineering graduates hold qualifications in chemical, civil and mechanical engineering, including honours and postgraduate degrees, and will contribute to planning, designing and maintaining SA Water’s extensive infrastructure network.

Graduates in the business stream bring insights in finance, economics and analytics to support strategic decision-making, while technology stream graduates contribute skills in information systems, computer science, AI, mathematics and engineering to drive digital, data and cyber initiatives.

Sahil Kumar holds a Master of Engineering (Mechanical) from Flinders University and said he was drawn to apply for a graduate position at SA Water to deliver meaningful work for communities across South Australia.

“Working here, not just in my field of engineering, but also serving our communities, is quite near and dear to my heart,” Sahil said.

“I’m excited to gain more knowledge of the business and work as a part of the engineering team, solving real-world problems and learning more skills to be a successful engineer.”

Sahil will join the Engineering Solutions team in his first rotation in the graduate program.

The two-year graduate program is designed to build capability, confidence and understanding of the industry, and will partner the new cohort with SA Water graduate alumni in a mentor capacity.

SA Water General Manager of People and Safety Debbie Kirby said the record level of interest in this year’s program highlights the appeal of meaningful work with a strong community impact.

“Our graduate roles are paid positions, and from day one graduates are part of our teams, working on real projects that support services people rely on every day,” Debbie said.

“Being selected from such a competitive field is a significant achievement, and this group should be proud. “They’re joining an organisation where the work they do has a genuine impact on communities, the environment and South Australia’s future.”

Debbie said the structured rotations, mentoring and development opportunities would give the graduates hands-on experience across the business, and insights into how the different parts of SA Water work together.

“It sets strong foundations for long-term, rewarding careers in the water industry, supporting future generations and delivering real outcomes for communities,” Debbie said.
