Infrastructure triples potential for new homes in Onkaparinga Heights
19-02-2026SA Water has delivered a major milestone for Adelaide’s southern growth corridor, completing the delivery of enabling water infrastructure and securing an expanded wastewater network that will support thousands of future homes in Onkaparinga Heights.
More than 1.1 kilometres of new trunk water main has now been constructed and commissioned ahead of schedule, ensuring a reliable water supply is ready to support the area’s southern development – which includes 1,000 new homes to be built.
SA Water’s General Manager of Growth Amanda Lewry said the early delivery of water services provides a solid foundation for development within Onkaparinga Heights.
“Having this critical water infrastructure in place early gives developers the certainty they need to move ahead with construction,” Amanda said.
“It is an important step for a growing part of Adelaide, and we are focused on delivering reliable services that support ongoing development.”
SA Water has also confirmed it will deliver a permanent wastewater solution for up to 1,600 allotments, more than tripling the initial servicing capacity.
“Expanding the scope of the wastewater network means we can support a larger number of homes, while reducing the reliance on temporary wastewater tankering,” Amanda said.
“Temporary tankering remains a common and necessary interim measure to service new developments until they reach a population that generates sufficient wastewater flows to maintain normal infrastructure conditions within a permanent network.
“The delivery of this permanent wastewater infrastructure includes approximately 2.1 kilometres of new sewer main, with these pipes ranging from 150 to 300 millimetres in diameter.
“The network will cross Main South Road and connect into our existing system to service homes within the greenfield development.”
A delivery timeframe for the new wastewater infrastructure will be finalised in consultation with developers.
The projects are part of the $1.5 billion investment in critical water and sewer infrastructure through the State Government’s Housing Roadmap – delivered by SA Water – to unlock capacity for new homes to be built across Adelaide’s northern and southern growth fronts.
SA Water is also progressing with infrastructure plans for a further expansion of its water and sewer network in line with forecast development in the area, subject to funding availability in subsequent regulatory periods.
