Graduate Program opens doors to purpose-driven careers

Applications are now open for SA Water’s 2026 Graduate Program, with the utility calling on passionate early professionals to discover a career in an industry that delivers real impact across South Australian communities.

With a strong focus on values, professional development and inclusivity, SA Water’s Graduate Program offers unique, structured pathways into the water sector – a field critical to the wellbeing of communities, the environment and future generations – across a range of disciplines including science, technology, and engineering.

SA Water General Manager People and Safety Debbie Kirby said the program reflects the organisation’s commitment to not only growing future leaders but nurturing individuals in an environment where they can thrive, both professionally and personally.

“At SA Water, our work is about more than infrastructure and operations – it’s about solving real-world challenges that make a lasting difference to the lives of South Australians every single day,” Debbie said.

“Our graduates don’t just learn technical skills; they’re empowered to drive change that extends beyond our organisation, influencing the broader water industry across the country.”

The 2-year paid program, with 15 available positions, provides graduates with diverse opportunities through structured rotations across internal business areas, accredited training, cross-functional project work and one-on-one mentoring, creating a launchpad for a fulfilling career.

“We invest in our people by offering more than just a job – we offer a career path,” Debbie said.

“Whether it’s stepping into leadership roles, developing technical expertise or working on major state-wide projects, there are so many avenues to grow with us.”

Debbie said SA Water also prides itself on fostering a culture of inclusion and wellbeing. From flexible work options to tailored support through wellbeing and mental health programs, graduates are welcomed into a culture that sees them as individuals, not just employees.

“We know our people come with unique backgrounds and aspirations, and our role is to support them to bring their authentic selves to work,” Debbie said.

“Our support networks – including Kauwi Miyurna for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues, Together for Women, Pride Together and Able Together – help ensure every person feels values, respected and heard.”

Amulya Parankusham earned her Master's in Data Science at the University of Adelaide after completing her Bachelor of Computer Science in India.

She joined the SA Water Graduate Program in February 2025, which was an opportunity to apply her studies to solving real-world problems.

“I have felt valued right from the start at SA Water – I really feel like I found a family,” she said.

“As an international student I was nervous about fitting in, but I found a community here that truly embraces diversity.

“From day one I’ve been working on projects that matter – ones that help communities. There is a real sense of purpose in everything we do.

“I understand water scarcity and what happens in communities when there isn’t the reliable delivery of safe, clean drinking water. It is part of what motivated me to apply to SA Water, but it is their values and genuine commitment to their community that keeps me inspired and thriving.

“The support I’ve received in the graduate program is incredible. The mentoring has given me the confidence to lead, I am excited that the program allows us to explore areas we are passionate about through future rotations.”

SA Water’s graduate program has evolved and been shaped over the past decade, helping to build careers and open up new pathways for university graduates.

With applications open for 2026 until Friday, 22 August 2025, SA Water is calling on driven university graduates to apply and take the first step in a career that’s not just rewarding, but purposeful.
