Get hunting to find your local regional fountain

With plenty of hot weather still left this summer, SA Water is calling on families, fitness fanatics and picnickers across regional South Australia to stay hydrated and help track down their nearest drinking fountain as part of the utility’s Bring Your Own Bottle (BYOB) mobile app.

Free to download across all smartphone platforms, the app uses an interactive GPS map to locate nearby drinking fountains and provide information on how to get there by car or on-foot.

SA Water’s General Manager of Customers, Strategy and Innovation Anna Jackson said around 1000 fountains across metropolitan and regional South Australia have so-far been registered into the app database.

“It’s great to see the South Australian community using our BYOB app to find a fountain, but we know there are many more out there getting used every day that can still be registered,” Anna said.

“Whether you’re out walking the dog or kicking a footy at the local park and spot a new fountain, we want to hear about it.

“Just open the app at the spot of the fountain, follow the basic prompts to ‘add a new fountain’ and our team will get the location verified and added into the system to help keep everyone hydrated.”

Every fountain is labelled with a star rating and provides specific information about what people can find at each spot, including drinking fountains, water bottle refills, dog bowls and taps.

“We’ve had some days of extreme heat this summer, and it is very important that people can access drinking fountains and bottle refill stations when they’re out and about to stay hydrated,” Anna said.

“Using a reusable plastic bottle filled with tap water is not only great for the environment, but also one of the easiest and most cost-effective benefits to your health and your budget.

“Single-use plastic bottles can take up to 1000 years to break down, and while we’re pretty good recyclers in South Australia, there’s still more than 30 per cent of PET plastic bottles that end up in landfill, oceans and other natural environments.”

SA Water’s BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) app is available to download in both the Google Play store and Apple App store. For more information on BYOB, visit sawater.com.au.
