Fresh batch of pipes underway in Willaston

Work to install around 200 metres of water main in Willaston is underway this week, as part of SA Water’s sustained investment in improving water services for Gawler and surrounding towns.

The water main upgrade, which will see new pipes constructed along sections of Redbanks Road, is part of the utility’s four-year, $155 million water main management program.

SA Water’s General Manager of Sustainable Infrastructure Amanda Lewry said this latest upgrade expands on another project recently completed in Willaston.

“A reliable supply of safe, clean drinking water is a foundation of healthy, thriving communities and by investing in our water network, we’re securing essential services for our customers into the future,” Amanda said.

“Replacing reticulated water mains – which connect larger distribution mains to our customers’ service pipes – enhances the long-term reliability of our infrastructure and helps to limit the frequency and potential of water main leaks and break, which have the ability to impact our customers.

“Our latest upgrade in Willaston follows the recent delivery of 410 metres of new PVC pipe along Bright and Paxon Streets.

“We’re delivering a total of around 47,000 metres of new water main throughout regional South Australia during 2021-22, with the upgrades only forming one component of our four-year, $1.6 billion capital program  of water infrastructure upgrades.

“We look forward to continue working together with our construction partners to deliver investment in communities right across the state.”

The upgrade along Redbanks Road is expected to take around three weeks to complete, with works typically occurring between Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm.

As work progresses, local residents will be notified of any temporary water supply interruptions that are required when SA Water moves their connections over from the old to new pipes.
