Answering the call to boost nature through Reservoirs Partnership Program

Not-for-profit organisations across South Australia are invited to apply for up to $10,000 in funding to bring their ideas to life at the state’s stunning open access reservoir reserves.

Now entering its seventh year, SA Water’s Reservoirs Partnership Program continues to back community-led projects that inspire environmental conservation, active lifestyles and community learning in the great outdoors.

SA Water’s Environment and Recreation Manager Dr Brooke Swaffer said the program is helping transform reservoir reserves into vibrant hubs of community activity.

“South Australians have embraced these beautiful spaces, and our program is about taking that opportunity even further,” Brooke said.

“We’re looking for passionate groups with creative ideas that celebrate nature, water and community spirit.

“Since 2020 when the program was first launched, we’ve seen this program support everything from kayaking workshops and guided walks to cultural art sessions and citizen science initiatives.

“It’s incredible to see what’s possible when local groups work with us to bring their passion and purpose to these unique places.”

The 2026-27 program offers not-for-profits an opportunity to connect their communities with South Australia’s environment and water resources, while encouraging outdoor accessibility, recreation and education.

Recipients supported in the 2025-26 round include:

Paddle SA: Paddle Power is a program designed to get individuals and family groups paddling safely at Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve.
Bike South Australia: Discovery Ride supports families, beginner riders, schools, clubs and recreational cyclists through guided rides at Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve.
Adelaide Canoe Club: A community day including a barbecue, come-and-try paddling sessions, interactive educational stations and conservation workshops at Myponga Reservoir Reserve.
Murraylands Multisports: Total Recon Adventure Race Series combines running, mountain biking, and kayaking with navigation across Happy Valley and Myponga reservoir reserves.
TAFE SA: The Junior Bio Blitz and Citizen Science Day for families with children aged 4-8 years to explore nature at South Para Reservoir Reserve, with activities including birdwatching, bird sound recording, and 2 nature-based workshops to learn more about the environment.

“With 10 reservoir reserves open to the public, there’s never been a better time to get involved,” Brooke said.

“Whether it’s a hands-on conservation project, a nature-based wellbeing event or a cultural learning experience – we want to hear your idea.

“These partnerships don’t just support activities – they spark long-term connections between people and places.

“They also help us build a stronger culture of environmental appreciation and stewardship.”

Applications are open between 10 August and 27 September, with partnership funding of up to $10,000 available per project.
