The Murraylands Migrant Resource Centre and Monarto's Lincoln Park Horse and Human Rehabilitation Centre will soon benefit from almost $7,000 in financial support provided through SA Water's Community Partnerships Program for 2019.
Announced today as successful recipients, the program provides $75,000 to support local community groups deliver events and projects fostering a better life across regional and metropolitan South Australia.
Responsible for the settlement of migrants and refugees in the area, the Murraylands Migrant Resource Centre will create a water wise garden for their clients to learn about what grows best in the new environments and how to use water wisely.
The Lincoln Park Horse and Human Rehabilitation Centre - a facility providing equine therapy for defence veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - will also install new refillable horse troughs at their Monarto property.
SA Water's General Manager Customers, Strategy and Innovation Anna Jackson said both groups are deserving recipients for their work in providing a better life to the local Murraylands community.
"Water plays such an important role in everyday life, and beyond its importance to public health and recreation, it is also a key educational tool for people and families of all walks of life," Anna said.
"These two projects will make a real difference to the lives of many people - and horses - in the Murraylands area, and we're excited to work with both groups in seeing these two programs flourish."
The projects are among 11 recipients of this year's Community Partnerships Program, which saw overwhelming interest from events and programs from communities across SA involving water or water use for a better life.
"We had more than double the number applications than for our 2018 program and narrowing the field down to our final list of projects was tough given the amazing range of community groups and events," Anna said.
"It's clear that so many of our customers have ideas and events that make a positive impact in the lives of others in the community, and we can't wait to support this group of worthy recipients throughout the next year."
