Roundabout upgrades to improve Gawler sewers

SA Water will shortly undertake works to upgrade the wastewater network in Gawler West as part of efforts to improve odour management for local customers.

Commencing on Monday October 28, the work will install new gravity mains, pumping mains, inspection holes and a new ventilation control unit near the intersection of Ryde St, Dean St, Gosford St, Barnet Rd and Overway Bridge Rd.

SA Water’s Acting General Manager of Asset Operations and Delivery Peter Seltsikas said the team has investigated the best available options to improve odour management in the area.

“We identified that by reconfiguring part of the area’s wastewater network and installing a new odour vent, we could improve the overall performance of the area’s sewer network for years to come,” Peter said.

“With similar upgrades completed at other sites across South Australia, we know this is a highly-effective method of controlling odour for the benefit of our customers.”

The upgrade is expected to take approximately 10 working weeks to complete, with works typically occurring Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm.

“For the safety of our people and commuters, we ask residents and road users in the area to please take note of traffic management in place through the intersection while works are being completed,” Peter said.

“Localised diversions will be in place with closures to the roundabout entry and exit points at Dean St and Gosford St during working hours, and we advise commuters and residents to allow a few extra minutes for their journey through the area.

“This is an important upgrade for the Gawler West area, and we thank the local community for their patience while crews complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
