Roseworthy ready for water main upgrade

SA Water has commenced works to replace approximately 350 metres of new water main along Ronda Avenue (from the intersection of Cliff road) in Roseworthy over coming weeks, as part of efforts to continually improve water services for customers.

The replacement works form part of SA Water’s $137 million investment to replace around 375,000 meters of water mains across the state between 2016 and 2020.

SA Water’s General Manager of Asset Operations and Delivery Mark Gobbie said the installation of new PVC pipes, which are flexible and more resistant to movement than cast iron and fibro-cement pipes, has been eyed off as a priority project.

"Although we can’t fully stop leaks and breaks from ever occurring due to certain environmental factors, we are committed to proactively limiting their frequency and any impact it has on our customers," Mark said.

"Water mains traditionally have a lifespan of around 100 years, which ensures the work being done will allow us to continue providing world class water services to our customers well into the future.

"This is one of many water main replacements SA Water is undertaking this year, and we look forward to continuing our investment in communities right across the state."

Expected to take around five weeks to complete, the upgrade works will typically occur from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:30am and 5pm.

"For the purposes of safety, we ask residents and drivers on Ronda Avenue to please be aware of changed traffic conditions in the area while the works are being completed," Mark said.

"We will also notify local residents of any temporary water supply interruptions when we move their connections over from the old to new pipes."
