Partnership helps Elliston get more water savvy

More than 80,000 litres of rain water is being piped to the Elliston Community Sports Centre as part of an important water harvesting project supported by SA Water's Community Partnerships Program.

With the toilet block facilities in need of refurbishment, the centre received funding from SA Water to install a 27,000 litre water tank and guttering infrastructure to redirect rainwater for use in the toilet, shower and kitchen amenities.

President of the Elliston Community Sports Centre Craig Penna said the project has made a significant difference to the centre, which plays host to functions, community groups and more than forty sporting and social teams.

“With water being such an important commodity on the Eyre Peninsula, we wanted to ensure that our facilities could help us be more sustainable in managing our water use well into the future,” Craig said.

"The end result has been vital in reducing our water usage and running costs, and our partnership with SA Water shows how we can come together to recognise and respond to an ongoing issue and make a real difference in our local community."

SA Water's General Manager of Customers, Strategy and Innovation Anna Jackson said the project supports SA Water’s vision for delivering world class water services for a better life.

“This is a popular site for many community events held in Elliston and the wider area, and it is great to know that our $4,200 in community funding is helping provide more sustainable bathroom services for the athletes, spectators and other visitors of the centre,” Anna said.

"The Elliston Community Sports Centre is among 17 recipients of funding as part of the 2018 Community Partnerships Program, and with applications for this year's program now open, we look forward to continuing our community involvement right across South Australia in 2019."

SA Water invites organisations to apply for the 2019 Community Partnerships Program with applications now open. The program offers a maximum of $10,000 in funding to not-for-profit organisations that run events and programs that use water to contribute to a better life in their community.
