New water main set to dock at Victor Harbor

SA Water has commenced works to replace approximately 300 metres of water main along Lindsay Street in Victor Harbor, between Oval Road and Crozier Road, as part of on-going efforts to reduce the impact of water main breaks on customers.

The works, which are set to be completed next month, form part of SA Water’s $137 million investment to replace around 375,000 meters of water mains across the state between 2016 and 2020.

SA Water’s General Manager of Asset Operations and Delivery Mark Gobbie said the works will install new 100mm PVC pipes, which are flexible and more resistant to movement than cast iron and fibro-cement pipes.

"Environmental factors like soil movement and weather conditions can make it tough to stop water main leaks and breaks from taking place, but we are committed to proactively limiting their frequency and any potential impacts on customers," Mark said.

"Water mains traditionally have a lifespan of around 100 years, which ensures the work being done in Victor Harbor will help us to keep providing world class water services to our customers well into the future.

"This is one of many water main replacements SA Water is undertaking this year, and we look forward to continuing our investment in communities right across the state."

Expected to take approximately six weeks to complete, the upgrade works will typically occur from Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm, with some work out of these hours potentially required at certain stages of the project.

"For safety reasons, we ask residents and commuters of Lindsay Street to please be aware of changed traffic conditions in the area while the works are being completed," Mark said.

"Our crews will also notify local residents of any temporary water supply interruptions when we move their connections over from the old to new pipes."
