New water main on the way for Nelshaby

SA Water has commenced works to replace over 1080 metres of water main along Acropolis Road in Nelshaby, from the intersection of Flinders Drive, as part of continued efforts to reduce the impact of water main breaks on customers.

Taking place over the coming weeks, the replacement works form part of SA Water’s $137 million investment to replace around 375,000 meters of water mains across the state between 2016 and 2020.  

SA Water’s General Manager of Asset Operations and Delivery Mark Gobbie said the installation of new PVC pipes, which are flexible and more resistant to movement than cast iron and fibro-cement pipes, has been eyed off as a priority project.

“With new water mains traditionally having a lifespan of around 100 years, this investment in Nelshaby allows us to best provide world class water services to our customers well into the future,” Mark said.

“While it can be difficult to completely stop water main leaks from occurring in our network due to environmental and weather factors, we are committed to taking a proactive approach in limiting their frequency and  impact on customers.

“This is one of many water main replacements SA Water is undertaking this year, and we look forward to continuing our investment in communities right across the state.”

The upgrade works are expected to take approximately six weeks to complete, with works typically occurring from Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.

“For the purposes of safety, we ask residents and road users of Acropolis Road to please be aware of any changed traffic conditions in the area while the works are being completed,” Mark said.

“We will also notify local residents of any temporary water supply interruptions that are required when we move their connections over from the old to new pipes.”
