Myponga residents are invited to get a taste of the upcoming improvement to the quality and aesthetics of their town’s drinking water supply, at a drop-in information session being held next week.
SA Water is hosting the interactive information session at the Myponga Town Hall between 7 and 8.30 pm on Tuesday 11 September 2018.
During October, the vital final disinfection process applied to cleaned and filtered drinking water sourced from the Myponga Reservoir for the local township network will change from chlorine to chloramine.
SA Water’s Senior Manager Water Expertise Dr Daniel Hoefel said Myponga residents should drop-in to learn about the upcoming disinfection process change, and experience the way it will improve the taste of their tap water.
"Some of our customers tell us they detect a residual note of chlorine, which is used to disinfect the water and kill any pathogens," Daniel said.
"Changing to chloramine ensures the water remains clean and safe to drink, but with a slightly different – improved – flavour profile.
"Chloramine is widely used for disinfection across our other regional water networks, including at the Woolpunda Water Treatment Plant which just won best tasting tap water in South Australia.
"We’ve road-tested chloraminated Myponga water with a specialist water tasting panel who preferred it to the current chlorine treated reservoir water, so we’re confident our customers will notice an improvement too."
Water supply from Myponga has grown and matured along with the Fleurieu’s population, starting as an unfiltered raw water supply in 1962 when the dam was finished, and dramatically improving when the treatment plant came online to filter water in 1993.
