Holly’s helping hand gains Governor’s recognition

SA Water Business Support Officer Holly Aldenhoven's philosophy is simple: life's all about helping others.

Having experienced unemployment before joining SA Water as a trainee five years ago, the Aldinga Beach local actively took it upon herself to help out young Aboriginal trainees entering the workforce as a mentor and friend.

Recognised as a valuable member of the SA Water team, Holly's success and supportive nature has now been rewarded with an Employment Excellence Award at the South Australian Governor's Aboriginal Employment Industry Cluster Forum.

The awards celebrate the achievements of the clusters program, which was introduced in 2010 to increase the number of Aboriginal people employed in various South Australian industries.

"I absolutely love coming to work and helping to make a difference to others every day, so it’s amazing to be recognised with an award like this," Holly said.

"I was lucky enough to have a great network of people supporting me when I first started at SA Water, so having the opportunity to help others in the same position was something I was really keen to do."

"Being a mentor has helped me come out of my shell and meet new people, which has also helped develop my leadership skills in the work I do each day."

Holly's dedication and work ethic has seen her flourish at SA Water, and her development is on-going as she works towards completing a Diploma in Business.

SA Water General Manager Business Services Jamie Hollamby says Holly's award win is the result of her passion for making a difference to both SA Water and the wider community.

"Her story is an inspiration for those who feel they are struggling to turn their lives around, and we're so proud she has been recognised as a recipient of this terrific accolade," Jamie said.

"Holly is in-tune with her desire to help others, and continues to embrace it by volunteering this year to become one of SA Water's internal contact officers for any of our people in need of assistance."
