Drop-in to KI water plan sessions

Kangaroo Island residents are encouraged to add their voices to the refresh of SA Water’s long-term plan for water supply for the Island, by visiting one of seven community drop-in sessions being held over the next two weeks.

The sessions provide an opportunity for the community to learn about, and provide feedback on, the long-term water supply options that have been identified in SA Water’s work with a community reference group over the last six months.

SA Water’s Kangaroo Island long-term plan lead Erin Faehrmann said the community drop-in sessions will be informal events that people can attend whenever they can spare a few minutes.

"We love talking about water and would like to get you thinking about it too, so please come along for a quick chat, or a more detailed discussion over a cup of tea," said Erin.

"Water is everyone’s business, and we’d like as many local residents to review and endorse the options that have been workshopped with the community reference group."

In addition to the seven sessions being held on Kangaroo Island, one will also be held in Adelaide.

Full session details are:

A refreshed long-term plan will consider the current and projected water supply and demand, as well as possible upgrade options for the future, to ensure demand can be met for both residential and commercial purposes for the next 25 years and beyond.

The reference group included 18 representatives from local community, business and industry associations, and worked with an analysis tool to balance a wide range of influencing factors such as cost, environment and social impacts.

"The group has given us great insight in to the unique needs of their communities and worked with us to translate this into the way we’ve assessed and ranked potential water supply options," said Erin.

SA Water’s current long-term water supply plan for Kangaroo Island was produced in 2009, with annual reviews undertaken to monitor changes to the region’s supply and demand profile.
