Trade Waste Application

Trade Waste Application

This form is to apply for a trade waste discharge authorisation which is required before you can discharge any trade waste to sewer.

You are eligible for Trade Waste discharge authorisation if:

  • If you are producing wastewater from your business or premises that is not considered normal domestic waste and you want to discharge it to our sewerage network, you must first apply for and be granted special authorisation to do so. More details regarding this can be found within our Restricted Wastewater Acceptance Framework.
  • Our trade waste team will assess the details and proposed pre-treatment plan within your application before issuing you an ongoing trade waste discharge authorisation. We may contact you at this time if we have any further questions regarding the application. If we are unable to accept your wastewater to our sewer system, we will let you know at this point.

Conditions:

  • We will visit your premises to inspect your discharge and to work with you by providing advice and support. Together we can ensure you meet your ongoing authorisation conditions.
  • Within your authorisation we will state the required pre-treatment systems that must be installed by you before any trade waste is discharged. In some instances, we may include a deadline for installation of a pre-treatment system at the time of issuing the authorisation. We will also provide details of all your contaminant concentration discharge limits, flowrate discharge limit and any further conditions that you must adhere to while discharging your trade waste.
  • During your scheduled trade waste audits we will assess whether your trade waste installation and systems meet the requirements stated within your authorisation. If the pre-treatment installation does not meet your requirements, amendments or maintenance will need to be made to the pre-treatment system(s). We will provide advice and support where possible and together we can ensure you meet your ongoing authorisation conditions.
  • We will notify you of any work you are required to carry out within your audit report. Failure to meet these requirements on an ongoing basis may result in you being in breach of your authorisation. This may lead to the withdrawal of your authorisation and a requirement to disconnect from the sewerage network.

Before you begin:

  • Please read the Restricted Wastewater Acceptance Framework which outlines the trade waste general policy requirements and has important authorisation compliance information.
  • The Trade Waste Guidelines and Fact Sheets also offer information about your specific business type requirements.
  • If there are plumbing changes, have your site plan ready to attach to your application. The site plan needs to show details of the plumbing and pre-treatment layout must accompany this application.

The information you provide in this form is subject to SA Water's Privacy Policy.
